Celestyal Cruises Cancellation Policy Guide

The idea of having a holiday at the pristine seas of the Aegean or Mediterranean with Celestyal Cruises sounds awesome but sometimes things can happen unexpectedly that make you rethink your booked vacation. For example, you could end up with some unexpected medical condition, personal problem or work commitments that would make you rethink your vacation.

You must be aware of the Celestyal Cruises cancellation policy before you get on board the cruise liner and even before you book it. We will explain everything about the cancellation and refunds policy of Celestyal Cruises.

Deposits and Final Payment: What You Owe and When

Before diving into cancellations it helps to understand how Celestyal structures its deposits and payment deadlines since these numbers directly affect what you stand to lose if you cancel.

As of April 2025 Celestyal updated its deposit requirements for individual bookings based on the length of the cruise:

Cruise Length

Deposit Amount

Up to 7 nights

$300 per cabin, $600 per suite

8 nights or more

$600 per cabin or suite

Guests also have the option to place a reservation on hold for up to 60 days before the sailing date with a seven-day window to confirm the booking with a deposit. If you make a deposit the final balance is due 60 days prior to departure. It is important to note that this deadline is crucial to making your reservation and if missed it could run the risk of cancellation so you should set your calendar ahead of time.

Celestyal Cruises Cancellation Policy: The Fee Schedule

Celestyal uses a straightforward, time-based cancellation structure. Rather than varying fees by cruise length the way some luxury lines do Celestyal applies one general fee schedule to most standard bookings:

Days Before Departure

Cancellation Fee

90 days or more

No cancellation fee

89 to 60 days

Deposit is forfeited

59 to 30 days

50% of the total cruise fare

29 days or less / No-show

100% of the total cruise fare (non-refundable)

That is, the absolute best alternative is to cancel early. You can usually walk away if you cancel 90 days in advance without losing any money. Wait around the last month and you may lose the cruise altogether.

Changing the sailing date is usually regarded as cancelling your original sailing date. Because of this, if you change dates you might end up paying the same fee schedule, not just being moved over for free so please check with Celestyal or your travel agent before asking to change your date.

What's Refundable and What Isn't?

Once a cancellation fee has been applied understanding what portion of your payment is actually returned to you can save you from any unpleasant surprises.

Generally refundable:

When you cancel your cruise within an eligible timeframe certain components of your booking may still be returned after applicable deductions. These refunds typically depend on how early you cancel and which services are included in your reservation.

  • Any amount remaining after the applicable cancellation fee has been deducted
  • Payments for additional travel products or services that are not part of the core cruise package provided cancellation happens before departure

Typically non-refundable or handled separately:

Not all elements of your cruise booking qualify for refunds especially as the departure date approaches. Some charges are either fully non-refundable or governed by third-party providers with their own cancellation rules and timelines.

  • The cruise fare itself once you're within 29 days of departure
  • Costs tied to third-party arrangements such as flights, hotels or ground transportation, which usually follow the cancellation terms of the individual supplier rather than Celestyal's own policy
  • Unused portions of a cruise if you leave partway through the voyage

Separate shore excursions, which are not included in a cruise package, have their own cancellation period, which is usually indicated in the ship's daily programme. Any excursions cancelled in that period of time are reimbursed to the original payment method, typically within 10 business days. However, the costs of the excursions are generally waived after that time period.

Exceptions Worth Knowing About

There are a number of special situations that may impact the timing and processing of your refund:

  • Extraordinary circumstances at the destination: Wherever there are unforeseen events that have a significant impact on the trip at or near your destination (such as a natural disaster or a critical safety issue). Celestyal will generally offer a full refund, but may not provide additional compensation.
  • Discount or promotional booking: If booked under special promotion, the booking may have different deposit and cancellation terms, which may be more strict. Always read the fine print on any promotion before booking.
  • Non-refundable deposits: There are some fares that clearly specify that the deposit will not be refunded if you cancel the booking, no matter how long it is cancelled.

The exceptions may also differ with each promotion, itinerary and even region, so it's always best to check your booking confirmation, and not just the general policy How to cancel a Celestyal cruise?

Cancelling a Celestyal booking is a fairly simple process but it needs to be done correctly and in writing to be valid.

If you booked through a travel advisor:

Cancelling through an agent requires clear communication and confirmation of applicable fees and refund details.

  1. Reach out to your travel advisor by phone or email with your booking reference number.
  2. Ask them to confirm exactly which cancellation fee tier applies to your sailing date.
  3. Request written confirmation of the cancellation along with details of any refund you're owed.

If you booked directly with Celestyal:

Direct cancellations should be made in accordance to written procedures and with all relevant booking details, so that they can be processed.

  1. Submit your cancellation request (via email) because Celestyal typically doesn't accept a verbal cancellation over the phone.
  2. Provide your booking reference number and cancelation reason.
  3. Request a detailed cancellation fee schedule, depending on when you are leaving.
  4. Ask to have cancellation confirmed in writing after being cancelled to keep a record.

It is a good practice to keep a record of all emails and confirmations received, particularly in the event of a subsequent dispute regarding fee payments and/or refunds.

What if Celestyal Cancels or Changes Your Cruise?

Unfortunately, cancellations are not always initiated by the traveler. Sometimes cruise lines have to cancel or drastically change a sailing because of the lack of bookings or operational or unforeseen problems.

If Celestyal cancels your cruise or changes your cruise by more than 8% or significantly changes your itinerary you are entitled to choose from the following:

  • A 100% refund of all amounts paid or
  • Swap for another cruise of same or higher value (or lower value cruise with the difference refunded).

These refunds will usually be issued within 14 days of the cancellation or ending of a contract. In addition, passengers must be notified by celestyal within certain periods of time, depending on the cruise's duration: at least 20 days before the cruise for cruises of more than 6 days, 7 days before the cruise for cruises from 2 to 6 days and 48 hours before the cruise for cruises of less than 2 days.

Generally, passengers still have the right to be fully refunded if it is because Celestyal did not have enough passengers for the sailing to proceed.

Conclusion

There may be sudden changes to cruise plans, but you can find out about the Celestyal Cruises cancellation and refund policy ahead of time so you're not caught off-guard. In essence there is one golden rule that should be adhered to - the sooner you decide to cancel your booking, the less money you risk losing. Make sure you keep in mind the date by which you should pay the balance and understand the conditions for the promotion rate.
